Allen E. Lee of Martinsville, IL passed away Saturday, December 18, 2021. Allen was born in Marshall, Illinois above Lee’s Delight Barr on June 7, 1937 to Alma Florence Fitzjarrald and Ernest Edward Lee. He was an only child. Allen graduated Marshall High School in 1955. By then, his parents owned Lee’s Propane Gas where he worked before and after graduation . In 1956, he attended Southern Technical Institute in Chamblee, GA for a six-month course of study in LP Gas Technology and returned to the family business after graduation. In 1957, he joined the United States Air Force and received his basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He continued his training in Radar Maintenance at Kessler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS. After completing this training, he was stationed at the 754th Radar Squadron (SAGE) in Port Austin, MI. While stationed there, Allen met Alice Rockwood and they were married August 22, 1959.On completion of his military service, he received an Honorable Discharge and in 1961 he and his wife returned to Illinois where he worked at the family business. When the family business was sold, he became manager for the new owners, Hick’s Gas Corporation. In 1981 he joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 157 in Terre Haute, IN where he worked until his retirement in 1999. Allen loved British sports cars and owned seven at various times in his retirement. He also enjoyed traveling to England, Ireland, Jamaica and all 50 states. Allen was a member of Martinsville American Legion Post 515. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice, his son Jeffrey Lee (Loretta) of Martinsville, his grandson, Christopher Lee of Plainfield, IN and his daughter Kathleen Lee (Kris Shannon), of St. Louis, MO. Public graveside services with military rites will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, Jan. 8, 2022 at Marshall Cemetery.
