Barbara Ann Kuykendall Marrs, 92, of Marshall passed away on January 25, 2025 after a brief illness. Barbara was born on November 18th, 1932 to Howard and Mae Kuykendall in Kansas, Illinois. Barbara graduated from Kansas High School. In 1951, Barbara married Joseph Henry Marrs and together had four children; Albert (Sandy) Marrs, JoAnn (Ron) Furgeson, Helen Rosalee (Jerry) Vickery, and Brenda (Ray) Melton. Barbara is predeceased by husband Joseph Marrs, sisters Helen Kuykendall and Betty Bottom, parents Howard and Mae Kuykendall and sister-in-law Rosa McKinney. She is survived by brothers Bill and Jim Kuykendall, sister-in-law Audrey Webster, her children, eight grandchildren, and thirteen (soon to be fourteen) great-grandchildren. In 1998, Barbara retired from the Clark County University of Illinois Extension after a 28-year career. Barbara was a strong, magnetic woman. She created a home full of warmth, laughter, and homecooked meals. In her youth, Barbara read every book in the Kansas Library. Upon her marriage, her mother Mae gifted her “Mita Given’s Modern Encyclopedia of Cooking”. With this first cookbook, and a few hundred others through the years, Barbara ensured her family was well fed and tight knit. She passed this legacy by compiling hand-written cookbooks of her favorite recipes for each of her eight grandchildren. Barbara and Joe cherished 50 years of marriage. They enjoyed spending time on the family farm and fishing at Mill Creek. Everyone had a place in their home, where she hosted over 60 years of Sunday dinners, 709 birthday cakes, and countless Friday “After Parties”. Barbara even officiated a wedding in her living room, after being ordained a minister in her final weeks. Barbara was fiercely intelligent and enjoyed living vicariously through her family, celebrating every achievement. She enjoyed keeping a structured social calendar, with swimming daily at the Casey Fitness Center and leading the Women in the Window on Wednesday nights. Services in honor of her life will be 2:00 PM Friday, Jan. 31st at Pearce Funeral Home. Visitation will be 12 Noon until service time Friday. Burial will follow in the Clarksville Cemetery.
