Betsy Ann Tucker Rader Harlow, 79, of Marshall, IL, passed away Friday in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN. She was a retired teacher having taught for 25 years at Ernie Pyle Elementary School in Clinton, IN, then substitute teaching in Marshall. She was born Sept. 12, 1938 in Miami, FL, the daughter of Charles Herbert and Waynona Orwilla Hartigan Tucker. She married Doit W. Harlow on June 26, 1982, who preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2009.
As a devoted member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Betsy co-chaired a program to help seniors, assisted with projects for the veteran’s home at Hutsonville, and started a project to assist the women and children at Conner Center of Terre Haute. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the backpack program for school kids, and Friends of the Library. Betsy loved “playing in the dirt” and bird-watching; sunshine, nature, and the ocean; golfing, fishing, and swimming; sketching, cross-stitching, and many other crafts. Everyone who knew her liked her.
Surviving are daughters Diana Lynne Rader (Sean) O’Brien and Donna Louise Rader (Dennis) Cooper; step children Joyce Harlow (David) Lewis, Mike (Laurie) Harlow, Julie Harlow Farrell, and Mark (Patti) Harlow; grandchildren Shaun Forest Rader, Zaun Myers, Alison Ross, Paige Arthur, Meredith Larson, Josh Webb, Whitney Yoder, Jason Harlow, Greg Harlow and Hope Harlow; great grandchildren Raymond Rader, Henry Rader, Alayna Myers, Kathryn Rader, Benjamin Ross, William Ross, Adeline Ross, Lillian Ross, Austin Arthur, Ella Arthur, Anna Arthur, Grayson Harlow, Max Webb, and Laylah Webb; a sister, Catherine Myers, and a brother, Horace Wayne Tucker. She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Forest Rader, her parents, and a brother, Herbert Tucker.
Services in honor of her life will be 5:00 PM CST Monday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, IL, with visitation after 2:00 PM. Following cremation, burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Emmanuel United Methodist Church.
