Carl M. Wernz, 71, of Marshall, IL, formerly of Oblong, IL, passed away 3:08 PM Monday, March 13, 2023 in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Carl was born June 29, 1951 at Terre Haute, IN. He was the son of late Harold M. Wernz and Helen Willmann Wernz. Surviving are two daughters, Lundie Wernz of Paris, IL and Carie (Paul) Jansen of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Maddison Plummer, Dalton Plummer, Kindall Plummer, Gage Jansen and Bryer Jansen; two sisters, Jane Warner(and the late Earl Warner) and Cartha Gustafson (the late Richard Gustafson) both of Marshall; a brother, Jim (Sue) Wernz of West Union, IL; several cousins, nieces and nephews as well as his beloved dog, Sadie. Even though Carl suffered severe health problems these past few years, he took on the job of transporting Amish workers to worksites every day, something he genuinely enjoyed. His huge smile will be missed as well as his hilarious one liners. He was also the jack of all trades and lived life to the fullest, never afraid of change or a challenge. Carl had an extensive record of public service as he was an elected township road commissioner, he was a board member of the Clark County Pork Producers, and a founder of the Clark-Edgar Rural Water District and had been an assistant 4-H leader. He processed an Illinois Farm Managers License. He had been an area farmer and welder and had formerly been employed at Christensen Farms where he was a Nutrient Field and Grounds Supervisor and Prox Co., Inc where he was a welder, assembler, machine operator, material handler and inspector. He was a 1969 graduate of Marshall High School and received a degree in Agriculture Equipment Technology from Lakeland Jr. College in 1971. Carl had a tremendous work ethic. Graveside services will be 12 Noon Saturday, March 25th at Livingston Cemetery, rural Marshall. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Clark Co. 4-H Foundation.
