Carole D. Shirely, 88, of Marshall, IL passed away 3:30 AM Monday, Feb. 8, 2022 in the Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Marshall. A graduate of the former Union Hospital of Nursing, Carole was a surgical nurse at Union Hospital for 43 years. She was born April 7, 1933 at Marshall, IL, the daughter of Fenton and Dorothy Dean Shirley. One of three children, she was preceded in death by two brothers, William S. Shirely and Leland Shirely. Surviving are nieces and nephews. Lora (Michael) Pringle of Dennison, IL, Kim (Jeff) Solomon of Johnson City, IL, William (Marsha) Shirely of Schoolcraft, MI and Tim Shirley of Indiana; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Shirley of Floyd Knobs, IN; many friends and her church family. Carole was a faithful member of the Armstrong United Methodist Church since she was a child where she served in various capacities. She loved to sew and do needlepoint. Her flowers around her home were admired by all those traveling on Route 40 and she also enjoyed stamp collecting, coin collecting, tending to her birds and traveling. She was a graduate of Marshall High School. A public graveside service will be 10:00 AM Saturday, Feb. 12th at the Livingston Cemetery with her nephew, Mike Pringle officiating. A memorial service will be held at a later date. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Armstrong United Methodist Church.
