Carroll H. Shade, 87, of Sewell, NJ, formerly of Clark County, IL, passed away December 29, 2013 at his home. Herm was a WW II Navy veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. He graduated from Indiana University and pursued a career in criminal justice retiring after 27 years of service. Later, he started a second career as the General Manager at Washington Twp. Municipal Utilities Authority and retired again after seven years. He was born April 19, 1926 in Clark Co., IL, the son of William Sylvester and Mae Hurst Shade. He married Lillian Holston and she preceded him in death on June 28, 2002. Surviving are three sons, Michael G. (Ayse) Shade, Patrick J. (Joan) Shade and Timothy E. Shade; grandfather of Kristin, Matthew and Erin; a brother, Edgar L. Shade and loving companion, Eileen Barker. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Sylvester, Ernest, Patrick, Glenn and Robert and a sister, Elizabeth Smith. He was a long time member of the Methodist Church, most recently with St. John's United Methodist Church. Herm served in many capacities including teaching, head ushering, the men's association and the Board of Trustees. Services in honor of his life will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial will follow beside his wife in the Auburn Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded by VFW Post #5975 and Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion. Visitation will be one-hour prior to services at the funeral home on Sunday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Auburn Cemetery Association.
