Charles Edwin Carlton, 78, of Marshall, IL passed away 7:51 AM Sunday, December 29, 2013 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN. He was a retired Supervisor of the former Velsicol chemical plant in Marshall. He was born November 4, 1935 at Fredericktown, MO, the son of Charles Franklin Etta Mae Maze Carlton. He married Monique Veydarier in August of 1958 in France. Surviving are his wife, Monique; two children, Cathy (Larry) Gmelick of Marshall, IL and Bob (Brenda) Carlton of Frisco, TX; grandchildren, Adam Carlton of Frisco, TX, Ashlee Carlton of Frisco, TX, Daniel Gmelick of Terre Haute, IN, and Eric Gmelick of Palestine, IL.; siblings, Mary Sikes and Carol Yount both of Fredericktown, MO, Virginia "Cookie" DeBlois of Alhambra, IL and Betty Sample of St. Louis, MO. He was preceded in death by a son, Charlie H. Carlton and two brothers, Don Carlton and Robert Carlton. He was a store keeper for 20 years and was a Chief Petty Officer in the US Navy. He served his country during the Viet Nam War during which time he was stationed of the USS Larson. He was a member of Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion and VFW Post #5975. He had traveled throughout the world, enjoyed and was accomplished in woodworking, enjoyed gardening and was a devoted St. Louis Cardinal fan. Memorial services in honor of his life will be 3:00 PM Thursday at Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. David Deal officiating. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery at a later date.
