Charles Paul Schmidt was born April 3, 1941 in Michigan. He passed away peacefully in his home of Dennison, IL joining his Lord and savior. He leaves behind a wife of 58 years, Dianna Schmidt, along with four children; Charles Schmidt of Brooksville, FL, Michele (Donald) Strickland of Dennison, Mike Schmidt of Marshall and Rob (Kristin) Schmidt of Schmidt of Tampa, FL. Charles retired proudly from Local #157. He was also a proud Mason of West Terre Haute, IN. He was an avid nature enthusiast with a very green thumb. His garden and walking in the woods was where he took solace. An impish charm always shimmered in his blue eyes and he was always up for a good practical joke. Some of his most fond memories were made with his older surviving brother, Virgil. The two were quite the companions and lived the cowboy way of life. Charles received his nick name “Tex” because of his cowboy reputation. The brother duo were a force to be reckoned with, usually terrorizing their eldest surviving sister Norma Furrow. Charlie’s heart was truly as big as Texas. Always quick to lend a hand or his home to whatever stray may need it, person or animal. His greatest achievement in life was his family. As a grandfather he held his grandchildren in high esteem and spoiled them with love immensely. Grandchildren include Alisa (Jeremy) Green, Michael Schmidt, Megan (Daniel) Savage , Jakob Strickland, Ryan and Kali Schmidt and great grandchildren, Elainna and Justin Green. Charles had a thankful heart in Christ. Every day is a day to be thankful for and every day our Lord blesses us with something to smile about. No services will be held at this time. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
