Darlena D. Wallace passed away on the night of October 30, 2019 surrounded by family and close friends at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care. She was known by all for her beautiful smile and her positive attitude, despite her diagnosis of cancer. Born on August 31, 1968 to parents Kenneth and Patricia Rankins, she spent her youth in Olivet, IL and later Marshall, IL where she graduated from Marshall High School in 1986. She married her high school sweetheart David just a few years later on May 27, 1989. They moved away from Marshall to begin their lives and start a family. Their only daughter Denise was born in 1993 in Decatur, IL. After several years of living away from family, they decided to return to Marshall and built a home on David’s family farm. Darlena began working at the Clark County Courthouse. She loved to travel, go to lunch with her friends, read books, go shopping and most importantly spend time with her family. She never slowed down her busy life when she was diagnosed with cancer. Her positivity and strength made her a fighter. She took each day and made the most of them. Though cancer may have taken her body, her spirit is free to live on. We were so blessed to have her in our lives. She is survived by her husband David of Marshall, IL; daughter, Denise of Springfield, OH; parents, Kenneth and Patricia Hollingsworth Rankins of Marshall, IL; sisters, Paula (Tom) Cline of Marshall, IL, Judy (Stan) Kraemer of Clinton, IN and Lisa (Mark) Dill of Paris, IL; many nieces and nephews and countless friends. Services in honor of her life will be held 10:00 AM CST Tuesday at Pearce Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 PM Monday. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, monetary donations may be made to the Marshall Public Library or MAYN (Marshall Area Youth Network). pearcefuneralservices.com.
