Darrell Ralph Martin, 74, of Dennison, IL passed away Monday, May 30, 2016 in St. Vincent Hospital at Indianapolis, IN after complications from surgery.
He was born Oct. 28, 1941 at Brocton, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Barbara J. Holmes Martin and his mother and father, Eileen and Pat Curran.
He leaves behind a son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Nancy Martin; two daughters, Lori Martin and Jami Martin; five grandchildren, Ali (Travis) Conine, Cody Martin, Tyler Martin, Zach Martin and Brody Martin-Stepp; one great grandson, Leston Conine; a sister, Carolyn Lowry; a brother, Ron Martin and several nieces and nephews.
Darrell joined the Marines after graduating from Marshall High School in 1959 and served overseas. He worked at Velsicol and was a member of the Concrete Finishers Union before starting his career in 1974 at Parker Drilling Co. He worked in the Oil Fields for Parker until his retirement in 2003. Darrell traveled the world in his nearly 30 year career including Alaska, Russia, Columbia, Papua New Guinea, Kalakhstan and the Saukland Islands.
He was a lifetime member of Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion, VFW Post #5975, Al-Alaska Shrine, Marine Corps League, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Marshall, IL and Alaska and the Scottish Rite Valley of Free Masonry of Alaska. Darrell loved to go to the garage and build things, mushroom hunt, deer hunting and the outdoors. He had a Darrell Martinism for just about every situation.
Darrell was a great man and will be sadly missed by his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
Masonic services will be held 2:00 PM Friday at Pearce Funeral Home. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Dunlap Cemetery. Visitation will be after 12 noon Friday.
