David L. Bailey of Marshall, IL passed at Union Hospital after suffering from Covid on Wednesday, January 20, 2021. David was born August 26, 1944 in Henderson, KY to Edwin Bailey and Clarabel Wolf Bailey. They preceded him in death as well as his brother, E. Stephen Bailey. Dave leaves his wife, Diana of 32 years; daughter, Megan Bailey Wineinger (Kenny) of Sullivan, IN; a son, Zack Bailey (Kendra) of Terre Haute, IN; granddaughter, Kendra Wineinger ; grandson, Michael Wineinger; brother, James Bailey (Vicky) of Montgomery, TX; a sister Katherine Bailey Sager of Santa Clara, CA ; several nieces and nephews plus his beloved Golden Doodle, “Maddie Dog”. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall. Dave graduated from Lawrenceville, IL High School in 1962 and also from Vincennes University and Indiana State Univeristy. Dave Bailey was born to be a broadcaster. He began his television career at WTHI-TV in Terre Haute as a studio assistant in 1966 while completing his degree in business management at ISU. During his tenure at WTHI-TV, he worked in engineering, production, public relations, marketing and sales. Bailey entered the sales department in 1974 and became local/Regional sales manager in 1976 and became General Sales Manager in 1978. February 5, 1987, Bailey was named vice president/general manager of WTHI-TV. Ten years later in 1997, he picked up the additional responsibilities of overseeing the operation of radio stations WTHI FM and WWVR FM. During that time Bailey agreed to many station initiatives to reach their goals ranging from being a model in catalog, to washing the outstanding employee of the years car. Bailey continued to oversee the three operation once the stations were sold by Wabash Valley Broadcasting to Emmis Communication in 1998. After an outstanding career, he retired from WTHI TV, WTHI FM and WWVR FM on March 4, 2005. Dave made many contributions to his community and the broadcast industry. He served as the President of IBA and was a member for over 30 years, CBS Network National Affiliates Board, Board Member and Fund Raising Chairman of the Wabash Valley United Way, Greater Wabash Valley Chamber of Commerce President and board member, Saint Mary of the Woods College Board of Trustees for 19 years, Board Member of Indiana State University Foundation, Board President Terre Haute South Rotary Club , a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary, Wabash Valley Community Foundation Board and was a current board member of Morris Plan and was involved with Esteem Broadcasting for 10 years. One of his finest honors was when he was presented the John K. Lamb Award by the Terre Haute Chamber of Commerce for Outstanding Community Service and leadership in the Wabash Valley. A walk through visitation with his family present will be 4-7 PM Saturday CST at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall. Additional visitation will be 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home for those not being able to attend Saturday. Private services will be held with a public graveside service at 3:00 PM Sunday at Marshall Cemetery.Covid 19 restrictions will be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of Providence of St. Mary of The Woods or to the First United Methodist Church..
