Deloris Ann Kirchner Maurer age, 82 was born November 27, 1937 and traveled on to her Heavenly journey December 12, 2019. Deloris was able to spend her last earthly day in her own home surrounded by loved ones. She was the third child born to Oscar and Lucille Kirchner. She arrived into this world in Clarksville, Illinois and was given back to Jesus in Clarksville, Il. It was a cold December night, the 24th, 1956 when Deloris married the love of her life Bob Maurer . He preceded her to Heaven Feb 14, 2016. After spending their last 3 Wedding Anniversaries apart, she and Bob will be together once again this year. Little did she know what blessings were ahead of her. Her love lives on through her children, George Maurer, Noble Maurer, Roy Maurer (Denise), and Sara Burdick (Jim) all of Marshall Il. Deloris also left her legacy to carry on through her Grandchildren who call her fondly, "Grandma Dode." Grandma's blessings are Taylor Maurer, Chris Maurer, Cayla Maurer, Emily Bays, Elissa Maurer, Elaina Maurer, Alyssa Dossett, Dalton Sanders, Demi Burdick and Jesse Burdick. She was also Grandma to 6 Great Grandchildren. Deloris is also survived by her sister Kay Williams (Richard.) The remaining siblings, Reba Pickens ,John Kirchner, Connie Cooper, Judy Rhoads, and Pearl Mollet ​have all made their journey to the next realm and without doubt were waiting to welcome their sister into Gods Kingdom. Deloris and her siblings grew up in the country and spent many days in the garden and canning the produce from the fruits of their labor. These were the days that taught Deloris to be so hardworking and able to do whatever she set her mind to. She wore many bonnets in her day. She was an excellent cook and baker. She had a green thumb that could grow a bounty. She was an amazing seamstress who stitched the most beautiful quilts. She wrote a column for our local newspaper for many years, titled, "Clarksville Chit Chat." She made it a point to keep in close contact with her family and neighbors to see how they were and if she could help them in any way. Deloris earned her teaching degree from EIU in 1957. She was married to Bob while he was in the Army and she was in college so some of their early marriage was spent apart. Teaching was her passion. Teaching was what Deloris was born to do. She started out teaching 7th grade in 1960, Marshall IL. In 1961, she started teaching 5th grade in the upstairs of the Old Girls gym. In 1963, she taught at the Old North School and in 1965 she landed at the new North School passing on her educational values to those blessed enough to have her for a teacher. Deloris was a hands on teacher. She made going to class an adventure. In 1983 she won the Top ten teachers in WTHI 's awards...and in 1984 she was chosen as Teacher of the Year. Deloris was a member of Retired Teachers Association. She retired in 1987...after 33 years. She was a member of Home Extension and enjoyed both teaching and learning through that program. Deloris and Bob both enjoyed many years as members of the Antique Power Club. She was also a member of the EIU Alumni Association. Deloris will be so missed by those mentioned, sister-in-laws Rosalee Smith, Maxine Maurer, and Millena Maurer, brother-in-law, Larry Mollet, many nieces and nephews, former students, her friends, and community. Her actions and incredible example that she showed her children, grandchildren, and students are behaviors that should be emulated by all of us. She was a true role model. ​ ​ Services in honor of Deloris Maurer's life will be held at Pearce Funeral Home, Marshall Il. Visitation being Sunday, December 15 from 2 pm - 6pm. Funeral Monday at 10:30 am. at Pearce Funeral home. There will be a brief graveside service after the funeral, Forsythe Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers you bring backpacks and or school supplies to be donated to North Elementary School. There will be a donation basket at the funeral home.
