Doris Grace Rayhel Burnam was born August 12, 1932 at the home of her parents at Walnut Prairie, IL. She was number 11 of 12 children born to John William and Grace Bell Griffin Rayhel. She married Russell Dean Burnam on July 24, 1950 and he preceded her in death on June 25, 2013. He was the love of her life and they spent 63 years together. She and her husband had four children and loved and provided for them through good times and bad, but always were committed to their family. Surviving are her children, Russell H. Burnam of Caterville, IL , Carolyn D. Scott and her companion Terry Stephen of Marshall, IL, Donna L. (Tom) Norton of Marshall, IL and Mark A. (Cathy) Burnam of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Jimmy Scott, Garry (Melinda) Norton, Jason Scott and companion Sarah Darr of Marshall, IL, Jennifer (Chris) Norton Carlisle of Pooler, GA, Sarah (Ryan) Towle of Hurst, IL, Abigail Burnam and her fianc̩e Jordan of Carbondale, CO, Hannah Burnam of Carterville, IL and Kyle Burnam of fianc̩e Jordan of Marshall, IL; great grandchildren, Cameron Scott, Evelynne Norton, Madelynn Norton and Thomas Norton of Marshall, IL and Paxton Towle of Hurst, IL; two brothers, Earl (Della) Rayhel of Terre Haute, IN and Lester (Jane) Rayhel of Bellevue, NE and a sisters, Roseanna Bowles of Paris, IL. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John, Virgil, Mary, Pauline, Silas, George, Floyd and Robert. She was a homemaker, mother and worked for many years at Caldwell's Dime Store. After it closed she worked at the IGA Bakery and then later worked at Coil Sales until she retired at the age of 65. Doris loved her family, always putting out a garden and canning. She loved to read and watch the St. Louis Cardinal either going to the games or on TV. She loved playing dominos, crocheting blankets and either selling them or giving them away as gifts, but most of all she loved helping Russ fry fish and having her family over to eat or just fry fish for the community, or church. In earlier years they would go to Florida for the winter. She was a member of the First Congregation Church, served as a Deaconess, loved helping with the altar, always helped with the meals served at the church. She was a faithful Christian woman and loved her church family. Doris was diagnosed with Alzheimer's at the age of 67 and was able to stay at home till age 77 and at that time she became a resident at Burnsides Nursing Home. Services in honor of her life will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at Pearce Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Duke officiating. Burial will be in the York Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 PM Monday and prior services at the funeral home on Tuesday. In place of flowers, it is requested by her family that memorial contributions for those desiring may be made to Lincolnland Hospice or to the First Congregational church of Marshall.
