Dorothy Ellen Reedy Rose ("Dottie") died of respiratory complication at 1:00 AM, May 18, 2014 at Meadow Manor East, Terre Haute, IN. A resident of Marshall, IL, she was the daughter of James Raymond and Alice Erlene Baker Reedy who predeceased her. Born April 4, 1938 in Clark County,Wabash Township, she attended Livingston School and Marshall High School. Her precocious talent in drawing and the visual arts was recognized before she reached school age. Following graduation from MHS, she enrolled in the Herron School of Art and Design (IU/PUI), Indianapolis. In 1960, she was awarded a 4-year diploma in Commercial Art, and later received the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1968. In 1958, Dottie married Ralph Edward Rose; they had no children and were divorced in 1965. She was employed first as Artistic Director at WCIA Television in Champaign, and subsequently, during their residence in California, she was an artistic set designer for local television stations in the Berkeley area. Following her return to Indianapolis to complete BFA degree requirements, Dottie worked in commercial advertising and layout design for L.S. Ayres & Company Department Store. She was also self-employed as a freelance artist. After returning to Marshall, she devoted much of her time to creative artistic endeavors. She was particularly accomplished in the production of oil and acrylic paintings, as well as other media. At an early age, Dorothy became a member of the Livingston Methodist Church by profession of faith; at the time of her death, she was a communicant of the Marshall Congregational Church. She is survived by several cousins and other relatives, and is remembered by devoted friends.
