Drexel E. Howard, 91, of Marshall, IL passed away Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018 in Heartland Manor at Casey, IL. Drexel was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and had served as postmaster at Martinsville and Marshall, IL. He was a veteran of WW II serving aboard the USS Yellowstone in the Pacific Ocean as a member of its first crew. He was born May 3, 1927 near Martinsville, IL, the son of John C. and Rose Harrell Howard. He married Edith M. Martin on Sept. 21, 1946 at Casey, IL and she preceded him in death on Jan. 10, 2018. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Rogene Callahan. Surviving are his children, Terry (Jeannea) Howard of Dennison, IL, John Howard of Marshall, IL, Lois (Rod) Guffey of Williamsville, IL and David (Denise) Howard of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Sean Howard, Leah Guffey, Jacob Guffey, Cassie Howard, J.C. Howard, Justin Howard and Tyler Howard; five great grandchildren; one step great grandchild and a brother, Harrell (Mary Ann) Howard and several nieces and nephews. Drexel was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall where he had severed on many committees, Marshall Lodge #133 AF & AM where he was Past Master, OES Chapter #739, 70-year member of Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion, life member of VFW Post #5975, Marshall Main Street and the Clark County Farm Bureau. He was also a member of the National Association of Postmasters, Clark County Optimist, Half Fast Square Dance Club, a former 4-H Leader, volunteer at Harlan Hall and other organizations too numerous to mention. Services in honor of his life will be 2:00 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Lewis officiating with military graveside rites following the service. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Saturday with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Clark County 4-H Foundation or to the VFW Scholarship Fund.
