Edith M. Cooper, 86, of Marshall, IL passed away 6:20 AM Thursday, July 20, 2017 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN. She and her husband Wayne farmed for many years in Clark Co., IL. Edith was born May 26, 1931 in the Dunlap area of Clark Co., IL, the daughter of Clifford M. and Harriett Clark Pickens. She married Wayne F. Cooper on Nov. 6, 1949 in Clark County and he preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 2009. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, a son-in-law, Lonnie Long; sisters, Clara Holaday and Farrell Savage and two brothers, Clifford Pickens Jr. and William Pickens. Surviving are a daughter, Tess Long of Newburgh, IN; a son, Mike Cooper of Marshall; grandchildren, Brian Long of Chicago, IL, Jeffrey Long of Indianapolis, IN and Christina Eslinger of Fishers, IN; a great grandson, Cameron Eslinger; a sister, Delores Roberts of Terre Haute, IN; three sister-in-laws, Dorothy Monroney of Springfield, IL, Terry Cooper of Martinsville, IL and Janet Cooper of Casey, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Armstrong United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #90 Auxiliary, D.A.R., Clark County Home Extension and was an avid bowler. She loved working with arts and crafts. She loved to travel and had been in 48 states. In 1974 she was awarded Grand Champion for the best cake in the state. She made cakes for many weddings and birthdays for several years. Services in honor of her life will be 1:30 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home with Pastors Adam Penn and Joe Irwin officiating. Burial will be in the South Vigo “Black” Cemetery.
