Edith M. Howard, 89, of Marshall, IL passed away 11:00 AM Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018 at Casey Health Care Center in Casey, IL. She was a retired registered nurse from Union Hospital at Terre Haute. Previously she had been Director of Nursing at both Meadows Manor North in Terre Haute and Burnsides Community Health Center at Marshall. She was born April 14, 1928 in Clark Co., IL, the daughter of Glenn and Lois Hassebrock Martin. She married Drexel Howard on Sept. 21, 1946 at Casey, IL. Surviving are her husband, Drexel; four children, Terry (Jeannea) Howard of Dennison, John Howard of Marshall, Lois (Rod) Guffey of Williamsville, IL and David (Denise) Howard of Marshall; grandchildren, Sean Howard, Leah Guffey, Jacob Guffey, Cassie Howard, J.C. Howard, Justin Howard and Tyler Howard; five great grandchildren; one step great grandchild;a brother, Garnet “Butch” Martin of Grants Pass, OR and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Imogene Guymon and brothers, Dean Martin, LaVerne Martin, John Martin, Byron Martin and Robert Martin. Edith was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall and the W.S.C.S. of the church. She was a member of O.E.S. #739 and was formerly active with Marshall Main St., Clark County Optimist, a Harlan Hall volunteer, Marshall Food and Clothing Bank and former 4-H leader. For several years she wrote a column in the Marshall Advocate called Edie’s Corner. Services in honor of her life will be 11:00 AM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. Visitation will be 2-5 PM Sunday with an O.E.S. Memorial Service at 5:00 PM.
