Fred E. Hayes, 74, of Marshall, IL passed away 10:58 PM Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in the emergency room in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN.
He started his teaching career in the public school system at Springfield, IL and retired as an art teacher of the Marshall Public Schools system after 39 years of service. He also assisted his wife with the operation of the former Bargain Outlet in Marshall and also assisted with banquet decorating.
Fred was born June 18, 1940 at Charleston, IL, the son of Phillip Horton Hayes and Mildred Stiff Hayes. Surviving is his wife Jackie; a daughter, Sara Mullen of Nokomis, IL; two sons, Michael Wallace and Jason Wallace both of Marshall; a brother, Ed (Virginia) Hayes of Westfield, IL; four grandchildren, Cody Lee Mullen, Becky Mullen, Benjamin Fredrick Mullen and Catherine (Cole) Keefer; three great grandchildren, Liam Keefer, Garren Hayes and Emma Clark; his step mother, Kathryn Hayes of Charleston, IL and his little dog and companion, Bailey. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Darrin on May 24, 1990.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at Paris, IL. He was formerly a cast member of the Marshall Mello Players. He had served on the certification board of the IEA and was also a member of the NEA.
Services in honor of his life will be 2:00 PM Wednesday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Tuesday at the funeral home.
