George E. "Gene" Kile, 93, of Marshall, IL peacefully slipped away to his Lord on Sunday, July 12, 2015 in the Burnsides Community Care Center at Marshall, IL.
He was employed in the Office of U.O. Colson and Company at Paris, IL as a bookkeeper for 30 years. He was born Oct. 9, 1921 at Marshall, IL, the son of Ernest Kile and Cecile Moore Kile. He married Anne Lovett on Oct. 30, 1946 in the Congregational Church in Marshall and she preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 2002. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne and a brother-in-law, George Murphy.
Know by many of his family members as GAK, he is survived by two daughters, Margaret (Tony) Malone and Mary Jane (Larry) Bender both of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Kelly (Josh) Livvix, Jenny Malone, Kyle (Julie) Bender and Julie (Camie) Wyrick; 8 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jean Murphy and his loyal and faithful feline companion, Peaches.
A faithful and devoted member of the Congregational Church of Marshall, he was the oldest active member of the congregation and served as treasurer, trustee, deacon and the boy's Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a member of the Marshall Lions Club for 50 years where he served as treasurer for 47 years. He was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award and the Monarch Chevron Award. He served as treasurer of the Edgar Co. Water District and had also served on the Burnsides Nursing Home board for many years. He volunteered his time at the Food and Clothing Center in Marshall and was selected as the Clark Co. Outstanding Volunteer in 2001. A Navy Veteran of WW II, he served as a radio man on the Atlantic Patrol. He held memberships in VFW Post #5975 and Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion.
Services in honor of his life will be 1:30 PM Sunday at the Congregational Church in Marshall with Pastor Tim Duke officiating. Burial will military graveside rites will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Saturday and 7:00 AM till 11:00 AM Sunday at the Pearce Funeral Home.
