Gerald "Vern" Smith, 60, of Marshall, IL passed away Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014 at his home.

He had been employed at General Motors, R.R. Donnelly, and Northrop King. He loved gardening and was well known for his produce stand north of Marshall on IL Hwy One.

Vern was born July 18, 1954 at Marshall, IL, the son of Gerald Smith and Rosa Lee Maurer Smith. Surviving are his mother of Marshall; four sisters, Lois Graffis of Paris, IL, Twila (Wayne) Burgess of Neoga, IL, Janice (Eric) Pratt of Paris, IL, and Twon Smith of Marshall, IL; a brother, Val Smith of Terre Haute, IN; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews ; a great great niece and nephew; aunts, uncles, cousins and his dog, Junior. Vern was a lover of the out of doors and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Services in honor of his life will be 1:00 PM Friday at Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Garner officiating. Burial will be in the Forsythe Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-6 PM Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to his sister, Twila Burgess, to assist in purchasing a monument for his grave.
