Harley Bennet, 86, of Marshall, IL passed away 10:55 PM Monday, November 11, 2024 at Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing in Marshall, IL. He was born August 16, 1938 in East Chicago, IN, the son of Joseph Bennet and Margaret Klarik Bennet. On February 23, 1963, he married Ruth Ann Hurst in Centralia, IL. She preceded him in death on November 26, 2017. He retired as a cost analyst from Wabash Fiber Box of Terre Haute, IN. Surviving are his children Laura Irwin of Marshall, IL, Rachel (Bruce) Gubbins of Champaign, IL, Dr. Joseph Bennet of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Eric Hutson, Katherine Weathers, Maxwell Gubbins, Samuel Gubbins, Olivia Bennet, Lucas Bennet-Ngo; four great grandchildren and a sister Sandy Randall of Paris, IL. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by grandchildren, Daniel Hutson and Sophie Gubbins. He graduated from Marshall High School in 1956, served in the Navy and later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Bradley University. He had been active with Rides Mass Transit, Illinois Department on Aging, Marshall Main Street, Clark County Historical Society, the renovation of Harlan Hall and Boy Scouts Troop #276. He was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall and the 3M Sunday School Class. A celebration of his life will be held at Harlan Hall on December 21, 2024 from 1 – 3 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in memorium to the Clark County Historical Society and the Marshall Public Library can be made. Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
