T. Harold Meehan, 97, of Marshall, IL passed away 7:30 AM Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 in the Burnsides Community Care Center at Marshall.
Harold was born on July 27, 1918 at Hume, IL the son of Thomas and Cecil Rooney Meehan. He was a member of the US Air Force attached to the Third Army. He began his military training in 1941 in Jefferson City, MO. He studied airplane mechanics for six month in Newark, NJ. He had fond memories of his visit to Time Square. He graduated from airplane instrument training at Chanute Field at Rantoul, IL. He served in England, France, Germany and Luxembourg until Nov. 15th 1945. After his service he returned to Hume, IL to join his father with the farming operation in Edgar County, IL where he farmed for 17 years.
On Nov. 22, 1951 he married Dorothy Wesser in St. Michael's Catholic church at Hume, IL. In 1967 he, his wife and family moved to Clark County, IL. In 1981 his son John graduated from pharmacy school and joined his dad in the farming operation allowing his father to retire in 1982. Harold and Dorothy continued to live on the farm and also enjoyed 20 years of traveling to their winter home in Bradenton, FL. In 2013 Harold and Dorothy became residents of The Villas of Hollybrook where they currently reside.
Harold is a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; a son, John (Vickie) Meehan and two granddaughters, Stephanie (Mitch) Landess and Marissa Meehan and a sister, Patricia Thompson and he was the beloved uncle of many nephews and nieces who were very dear to him. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas and a sister, Helen Wamsley.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church at Marshall with Rev. Augustine Koomson serving as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Clark Co. Post #90 of the American Legion and VFW Post #5975. Visitation will be 9:00 AM until 10:45 AM Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church or the Salvation Army.
