Hazel M. Austin, 84, of Robinson, IL, formerly of Marshall, IL passed away Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015 in Newton Rest Haven at Newton, IL.
She was born Oct. 7, 1930 in Melrose Twp., Clark Co., IL, the daughter of Ormal and Opal Alexander Higginbotham. She married Guy C. Austin on January 1, 1950 and he preceded her in death on February 28, 2001.
Surviving are four daughters, Betty (Max) Fisher of Owensville, IN, Kathy McElligott of Cahokia, IL, Barbara Buehrle of Yuba City, CA and Linda Hock of Robinson, IL; ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren,; five brothers, Chester (Beverly) Higginbotham of Paris, IL, Charles (Phyllis) Higginbotham, Gene (Judy) Higginbotham, Robert (Sheryl) Higginbotham all of Martinsville, IL and Floyd "Sonny" (Glenda) Higginbotham of Marshall, IL; a sister, Rosemary (Bob) Linton of Paris, IL; a sister-in-law, Sharon Veach of Hunt City, IL and several cousins, nieces , nephews and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joe McElliogtt; a brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Kitty Higginbotham; a sister and brother-in-law, Louise and Earl Dean Veach; a brohter-in-law, Herman Thompson and a nephew, Brent Thompson.
Hazel loved flowers, gardening, quilting, going to craft shows and doing garage sales. She was a caregiver, cleaned houses, and had been employed at Quaker Maid, TRW and Burnsides Nursing Home.
Services in honor of her life will be 11:00 AM Friday Sept. 11th at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Pastor Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Thursday and 7:00 AM until service time Friday at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall Cemetery Association.
