Helen Naterrdad (Mead) Cooper, 92, passed away 4:23 PM Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016 at the home of her daughter surrounded by family. She was born on December 25, 1923 in Baja Far Mejia Herrera, Oriente, Cuba the daughter of Ira Cecil and Delores Pino Moreno Mead.
She married Lyman G. Cooper on July 7, 1945 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 12,, 2001. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence C. Mead; a son, Gary L. Cooper and a special aunt, Mary Mead. Surviving Helen are two daughters, Laurie (Bill) Dicus and Nancy Haddix; a daughter-in-law, Kathy Cooper; six grandchildren, Rich (Jonnie) Wilson, Megan (Kurt) Bunfill, Breanna Cooper, Meredith (Chris) Roberts, Derrick (Sarah) Dicus, Derrin (Andrea) Dicus; two step grandsons, Matthew (Mia) Buck and Eric (Katie) Buck; 16 great grandchildren, Harley Wilson and her fiancee Logan Hale, Denver and Jessup Wilson, Katie and Kaylee Dicus, Dalton, Austen and Maggie Dicus, Jared and Grace Bunfill; 5 step great grandchildren, Evelyn, Robyn, Mary, Levi and Vince Buck; one great great granddaughter, Raelynn Hale; a step sister, Lucille Phillips and children Becky and Paul Phillips; a sister-in-law, Juanita Hayhurst; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends and a great group of nurses and aids from Great Lakes Hospice.
Helen was a very special person to so many people. She had a smile for everyone and always found the good in people. She loved to take pictures, went on bird counts, had beautiful flowers, was in Singing Sam's, God’s Maturing Children and quilt club. She loved the Lord Jesus and was a member of Cooper Chapel of God where she led the singing and also played the piano by note and by ear. In later years she became a member of the Armstrong United Methodist Church. She was very active in the Senior Sunday School Class.
Services in honor of her life will be 2:00 PM CST Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Rev. Krista Price officiating. Burial will be in the So. Vigo “Black” Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 PM Saturday at the Armstrong United Methodist Church 18500 N. Armstrong RD, Marshall. Visitation will also be one-hour prior services at the funeral home on Sunday.
