Herbert Leon Spires, age 95, passed away at 11:11 PM Monday September 14, 2026 at his home in Marshall. Herb was born on November 27, 1930 in Marshall, IL to Charles Bruce and Hattie Stella (Spangenburg) Spires. He married Joleen Parker on June 6m 1965 at the Clarksville Baptist Church in Rural Marshall. He was retired as a highway maintainer with IDOT. He had also owned and operated the Standard Filling station in Marshall. Herb is survived by his Daughter Malinda (Gary) Hudson of Hindsboro, IL; son Kelly (Annette) Spires of Marshall, IL; Three grandsons Wyatt (Halle) Johnson of Marshall, IL; Walker (Lyvvea) Johnson of Marshall, IL; Parker (Attica) Spires of Marshall, IL. One step granddaughter Alex Furgeson and Family of Hindsboro, IL; one step grandson Michael Hudson and Family of Hindsboro, IL; Many Nieces and Nephews; Several special caregivers Louann Higgins, Cierra Knowles, Sharon Cunningham, Corrie Peccelle, and Crystal Griffith. He was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters Raymond Spires, Mildred Elledge, Wayne Spires, Sarah Brashear, Chet Spires, and Paul Spires. He member of American Legion Post #90, Life member of VFW Post #59775, Deacon at Clarksville Baptist Church for many years, Masonic Lodge #133 AF+AM Member, Marshall High School class of 1949, Loved playing checkers and chess, and was an avid bowler with a high score of 299. Funeral Services for Herb will be held at 10:00 Friday September 18, 2026 at the Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Kenin Smith Officiating. Burial will follow in the Clarksville Cemetery with Military rites by VFW Post #5975 and Clark County Post #90 of the American Legion. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday September 17 at the Pearce Funeral Home.
