Homer Lee Clem, 77, of Marshall, IL passed away Tuesday morning, April 23, 2013 at the Casey Health Care Center at Casey, IL Mr. Clem was born August 31, 1935 in Muskogee, OK, the son of Willis V. Clem and Lucille Brumley Clem. Both parents preceded him in death, as well as a brother Hubert "Lucky" Harris, his stepfather, Joseph Peralta and a grandson, Levi Thompson. He graduated from Riverside Polytechnic High School in 1953. He served in the National Guard and the U.S. Army in the early to mid-fifties. He married Donna Claypool in September of 1968. As a young man, Mr. Clem was involved with automobile racing and was part of the early dragster racing community based in west-central California. In later years he was involved with the American Legion, VFW and 40&8 and was active in his church. One of his favorite projects was working with Veterans in providing flags to first graders. He was also active in the Lincoln Trail Audubon Society and helped establish Mill Creek Park's Blue Bird Trail. Mr. Clem is survived by his wife; a brother, C. Edward Clem of Phelan, CA; four daughters, Susan Kelly, Diana Underwood and Sherry Robison all of Marshall, IL and Laura Clem of Gardiner, Montana; nine grandchildren, Michael (Jen) Morrill, Matthew Simons, Tyler Simons, Megan Kelly, Tonya (Bob) Gendren, Melissa Thompson, Amanda (A.J.) Rhoads, Briar Robison and Ridge Robison; two nephews and 7 great grandchildren. Services in honor of his life will be 10:00 AM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with Bro. Larry Morecraft of the Five Points Christian Church officiating. Burial will full military graveside rites in recognition of service to this grateful nation will follow at the Green Moss Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to any Veteran's organization or to the Green Moss Cemetery Association.
