Ivan Jr. VanTassel passed away Sunday morning March 24, 2024 at the Casey Health Care Center at Casey, IL at the age of 95. Ivan was born Sept. 22, 1928 near Charleston, IL to Ivan Lester and Elsie Tipsword VanTassel. Ivan was a veteran of W.W. II, volunteering at the age of 18 and served 8 years in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Eastern IL University as a grounds foreman and later worked and retired from the Marshall Housing Authority. He had also been employed by the Marshall School System in the maintenance department and he had also done some farming on the side. Ivan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patsy Kibler; three sons, Randy VanTassel of Mattoon, IL, Brian (Julie) Murphy of Martinsville, IL and Brad Murphy of Greenwood, IN; two daughters, Amy (Derek) Cantrell of Carmel, IN and Jamie (Jim) McKittrick of O’Fallon, IL and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brotherin-law and sister-in-law, John and Bunny Kibler and a sister-in-law Shirley Gunther. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mother; first wife, Katie Rutan VanTassel; sons, Jim VanTassel, Ivan Jr. “Van” VanTassel, Mike VanTassel and Kenneth VanTassel; mother and father-in-law, Florence and Ralph Kibler; brother-in-law, Douglas Gunter; sisters, Janet Ness and Mary Louise Adams; brother, Dean VanTassel. Ivan was a faithful member of the Clarksville Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for many years. He also started and taught for many years a young married couples class. In his spare time, Ivan truly loved to fish. Visitation will be 10:00 AM to 12 Noon Friday at Pearce Funeral Home with a service in honor of his life at 12 noon.
