Jack Porter Jr., 82, of West Terre Haute, formerly of Marshall, IL passed away 7:36 PM Sunday, Nov. 4, 2018 at Gibson Family Hospice Inpatient Unit at Terre Haute, IN. His first job was at the age of 12 with the Tribune-Star where he learned the true ethics of work. He was later employed at Pillsbury, Alcan for 27 years and the Newport Ammunition Depot where he retired in 1999. Jack was born Oct. 30, 1936 at West Terre Haute, IN, the son of Jack Porter Sr. and Mildred Henson Porter. He first married Shirley Ramsey on Aug. 31, 1957 and she passed away May 31, 2011. He later married Carolyn Messick on Feb. 14, 2014. Surviving are his wife Carolyn; two sons, Rob (Dena) Porter and Tim Porter both of Marshall; grandchildren, T.J. (Casey) Porter and children, Lincoln and Cameron, Austin (Kanduis) Porter, Emily (Guy) Carlisle and children, Xavier, Alana, Sophie and Connor, Nathan (Makayla) Porter and Cody Porter and daughter, Klara; three sisters, Nancy (John) Russell of Camby, IN, Judy (Don) Kohl of Rock Falls, IL and Sharon (Jim) Lawless of Murphysboro, IL and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his first wife and parents, he was preceded in death by grandsons, Kenny Patterson and Mitchell Pullum. He was a graduate of Concannon High School and had coached Little League at West Terre Haute where his team was the Little League Champions in 1972. Jack was an avid hunter and fisherman, but most importantly, he was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and brother. Services in honor of his life will be 2:00 PM CST Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Livingston Cemetery, rural Marshall. Visitation will be 12 Noon until service time.
