Jacqueline M. Kitchen, 84, of Marshall, IL passed away 4:15 AM Friday, Sept. 3, 2021 in Springhill Village at Terre Haute, IN with family by her side. She was born Oct. 4, 1936 at San Pedro, CA, the daughter of Jack and Clara Smith Trover. On Aug. 24, 1958 she married Ronald Kitchen and he preceded her in death on Nov. 11, 1996. She was additionally preceded in death by her parents; a brother and sister-in-law; Charles Lee Trover and Patricia Trover and a brother and sister-in-law David and Naomi Kitchen. Surviving are a daughter, Elizabeth (Bill) Richey of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Katie Collins, Adam Richey, Aaron Richey and Seth Richey and brother and sister-in-laws, Gayle (Ron) O’Rourke of Marshall, IL and Phil (Marilyn) Kitchen of Arthur, IL. Jackie retired in 1993 from teaching in Illiopolis, IL. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall, Marshall Main Street, IL Retired Teachers Association, Antique Club and her beloved Bridge Group. She was responsible for The Avenue of Flags in Illiopolis and started the same in Marshall through the Marshall Main Street Program. While teaching she instilled a love of reading and patriotism in her students. She made learning exciting and gave her students unique experiences. Jackie hosted numerous authors and illustrators, organized patriotic programs, coached literary speech contests, reading auctions and frog jumps. Teaching was her gift and love only second to the love of her family. In 1981 she was selected as one of the Illinois Teacher of Excellence top 5 finalist and in 2001 was a Woman of Achievement Award Winner. Services in honor of her life will be 2:00 PM Saturday at Pearce Funeral Home with Paul Cooper and David Trover officiating. Burial will be in the Ridgelawn Cemetery at Martinsville, IL.
