James Edward "Jim" Norton, 69, of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Marshall, IL, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in Signature Healthcare at Terre Haute, IN. He was born May 18, 1957, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN, to Ronald Lee and Susan Adele (Brown) Norton. Jim was a 1975 graduate of Marshall High School and a 1977 graduate of Lakeland Junior College. During high school, he was active in clubs and participated in golf, basketball, and baseball. Jim lived his life the way he wanted with no excuses. He always had a burning desire to travel the country and to not be tied down any way or by anyone. He traveled to multiple states and always easily found work. Texas, Nevada, Florida, and Colorado were some of the many states in which he resided and worked various jobs. He eventually found his way back to Marshall, where for a time he helped his parents in their soft water business. Later he bought a house in Terre Haute and settled there for the last several years of his life. Jim made friends easily everywhere he traveled. He participated in softball leagues as well as bowling leagues in Marshall & Paris for many years. He enjoyed collecting baseball cards and sports magazines and found great joy in indoor gardening over the years.Jim is survived by his brother Mark (Darcy) Norton of Monroe, NC, his sister Jane (David) Williams of Martinsville, IL. Nieces & nephews, Chris Norton, Princeton, IN, Dr. Dustin (Kristen) Norton, Charlotte, NC, Eliza (Steve) Smith, Westfield, IL, Jennifer (Jason) Ogle, Martinsville, IL, Jeremy (Jenna) Williams, Oblong, IL. Great nieces & nephews, Laryssa Norton, Allison & Easton Norton, Dalanee, Brody & Grady Smith, Bailey Ogle, Hudson & Harper Williams and Grayson & Carter Edwards, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Thomas & Elizabeth (McKenzie) Norton, Oliver & Adeline (Sappington) Brown; cousins, Tom Norton and Janice Norton.A visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, August 8, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (CST) at Pearce Funeral Home, Marshall, IL. Per Jim’s wishes, cremation was chosen, and he will be interred beside his parents in Marshall Cemetery.
