James W. Gwyn, 79, of Marshall, IL passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2021 at his home surrounded by family. He retired from the teaching of music from the schools of Winslow, IN, Marshall, IL and West Palm Beech, FL. He served as the band director at Marshall High School from 1967 through 1985. Jim was born at Evansville, IN on July 4, 1942, the son of William V. Gwyn and Sarita E. Tanquary Gwyn. On April 14, 1963 he married Helen Joyce Granby at Keensburg, IL and she survivies. Also suriviving are a daughter, Sarah E. (Tim) Thompson of Martinsville, IL; a son-in-law, Del Ledermann of Marshall, IL; grandchildren, Amanda (Christopher) Crocker, Samantha (Evan) Barton, Shelby (Lewis) Sanborn and Aaron Thompson; great grandchildren, Chase Brady, Evan Tyler Barton, Avery Crocker, Alison Crocker and James Sandborn; two sisters, Anne Moffet and Rebecca (Mark) Scheller; a brother-n-law, Mark Dieckmann and his dog and a faithful companion, Junie. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy A. Ledermann; a grandchild, Clayton Brady; a brother, Geoffrey Gwyn and a sister, Jennifer Dieckmann. He was a graduate of Evansville College and later received his Master’s degree from Indiana State University. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marshall, member and Past Master of Marshall Lodge #133 AF & AM, Scottish Rite Valley and the Shrine. He had served on the Marshall City Council, truly loved riding his Harley and was a member of A.B.A.T.E. Services in honor of his life will be 10:30 AM Thursday at Pearce Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Sabo officiating. Burial will be in the Ohio Cemetery, rural West Union, IL. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Wednesday at the funeral home with a public Masonic service at 7:00 PM.
