James Michael “Mike or Froggy” Garner was born at Paris, IL on July 22, 1957, the eldest son of Walter and Wonnona Willis Garner. He passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019. Mike spent his early years in Anderson Twp. of Clark County, IL. There he learned to love nature while roaming the hills and woods. In the late 1960’s the family moved to Martinsville. Mike was a 1975 graduate of Martinsville Community High School. While in school Mike was a member of several clubs and sports teams. He was a Boy Scout and later assistant leader for several years. He helped coach summer baseball and softball and umpired both youth softball and baseball. He coached little league football and served a four year term on the Martinsville City Council. In his younger years he worked for Newman’s Orchard, Wilderness Lake Campground, Dean Alexander Construction before going to work at Row Foundry where he retired after 40 years. Mike married Cheryl Lynn Wilson on June 25, 1977 in rural Martinsville. Mike was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to many. Early in his life he developed a love for fishing and hunting, especially deer. Mike and Cheryl spent many hours riding motorcycles together. Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Cheryl; daughter, Shanon; son, Grant; brother, Brian; grandchildren, Paige, Jade and Ian; great grandson, Bradley; sister-in-law, Bobbi; brothers-in-law, David and Sam; two aunts; many cousins, nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, brother, Kevin; sister-in-law, Teena and borther-in-law, Jim. Memorial services will be a later date.
