James R. Taylor, 75, of Martinsville, IL passed away 11:50 AM Monday, June 24, 2024 in the Gibson Family Center For Hospice Care at Terre Haute, IN following a courageous battle of cancer. He was born Jan. 30, 1949 at Terre Haute, IN, the son of George and Ruby Goodwin Taylor who preceded him in death as well as a daughter, Cindy Taylor Morgan; two sisters, Della Mae Birchfield and Imogene Delp; a brother, Wilbur Taylor; in-laws, Bill and Phyllis Crawley; brother and sister-in-laws, Marilyn Taylor, Judy Taylor, Ralph Delp and Phillip Birchfield. Jim is survived by his wife Valla Crawley Taylor who he married Oct. 7, 1994 at Henderson, KY; a son, Jeff (Rayna) Taylor of Marshall, IL; a step son, Dane (Lori) Tally of Westfield, IL; step daughter, Jenna Tally of Paris, IL; a sister, Linda Murphy of Marshall, IL; a brother, George Taylor of Marshall, IL; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Jim served this nation in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1971 which part of his time serving was in Viet Nam. He loved to hunt deer, raccoons and coyotes and his favorite mule was Joe and his dogs were Duke and Drive. He also loved to mushroom hunt. Jim retired from Carpenters Local #133 after over 20 years of service and also had his own roofing company. A graduate of Marshall High school, he was also a member of VFW Post #5975 and Clark County Post #90 of the American Legion where he had served as commander. Visitation will be 10:00 to 12 Noon Friday at Pearce Funeral Home with a service in honor of his life at 12:00 noon with Pastor Billie Ray Ulrey officiating.
