Jay E. Lorton, of Casey, IL passed away on the family farm on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2020 while doing what he loved most, raising animals and working the farm. Jay worked extremely hard his whole life professionally and at home and will be remembered as someone with great mechanical knowledge and skilled in animal husbandry, forestry, carpentry, gardening and simple living in the country setting. Jay was very fond of antique tractors and had a proud collection and could be seen any afternoon operating them on the farm. More importantly, Jay is remembered as a caring neighbor and friend who truly put others before himself and made helping others a hobby. He will be missed dearly by his family. He was born Nov. 29, 1964 in Shelby County, IL, the son of John F. and Janet Sallee Lorton. Surviving are three children, Jarrod Lorton of Casey, IL, Aubrey (Ethan) Claypool of Marshall, IL and Kelsey (Chad) Washburn of Casey, IL; grandchildren, Carsyn Day, Milo Claypool Oakley Claypool, Ivy Claypool, Amelia Washburn and Colt Washburn; his step-mother, Ruth Lorton of Casey, IL; a brother, Jerry (Gail Lorton of Casey, IL and Jana (Greg) Aydt of Charleston, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a graduate of Casey High School and worked for Howell Construction through Local #841 Operators Union. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday in the Buchanan Cemetery near Herrick, IL. A private family visitation will be Tuesday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall.
