John Jackson Wooters II, 76, of Marshall, IL, formerly of Paris, IL, passed away late in the late evening of Friday, September 3, 2021 at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, IN. He succumbed to a very swift and serious illness with his daughter Angela by his side. John was born to Bobby Jo (Fant) and Harold Guy Wooters in Salem, IL. He was the oldest of 4 siblings – Brother Roy and wife Patsy of Suffern, NY, Brother Tim and partner Donna of Temple, PA and Little Sister Patti Jo Williams and husband Randy of Centralia, IL. Other family include a niece Wendy Adams and her Mother, Linda Wooters of Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and Nephew Leroy Wooters. John married Barbara Faye Baker Howard in 1971 and became family with her daughters, Mary Howard Kessler (Hersh) and Linda Howard. Though no longer married, John and Barb maintained a special relationship as the best of friends throughout the years. Angela Jo Wooters was born the only child between John and Barb. Known to her Dad’s family as AJ, she always considered herself a Daddy’s Girl. He bought her first bike, took her on many road trips to Southern Illinois to see family, shared adventures of amusement ride operator at numerous summer festivals, showed her how a typesetter worked, and made her change flat tires until she could do it perfectly. AJ inherited his sarcastic sense of humor, his genuine laugh and his stubborn spirit. He also taught AJ about secret acts of kindness, lending a hand to those who need it, and looking out for others who are struggling. He introduced her to classic country music, and the Oak Ridge Boys became a favorite for them both. Many questionable duets were sung loudly in his blue Chevette. John cherished his role as Papa to Angela’s sons, Brady Sutton and Reese Sutton. He’ll forever be remembered for his Christmas gifts of flashlights, pocket knives, and hats. Visitation will be at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, IL on Sunday , Sept. 19th from 4-6 PM. John served his country in the United States Air Force from 1963 to 1967. He will be buried with full military honors at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Danville, IL. His family will attend a private graveside service at time of interment. John would have appreciated any donations in his name to Harlan Hall in Marshall, IL.
