Joseph James “Jim” Ryan, 90, of Marshall, IL passed away at his daughter Mary Reuter’s home in Fairland, IN on June 8, 2018. Mary was his loving caregiver during his recent battle with cancer. Jim was born January 4, 1928 to Joseph F. and Anna M. Ryan in Indianapolis, IN. He was a 1945 graduate of Indianapolis Cathedral High School and 1950 graduate of Purdue University. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. After returning from Korea he married Rose Mary Dages on December 26, 1953. Rose Mary preceded him in death on September 27, 1977. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Ann Lommel; his brother-in-law, Austin Dages; his brother-in-law, Donald Wooldrik and his son-in-law, Clark Perkins. Jim and Rose Mary were the parents of seven children; Judy Tribble and husband Jim of Brazil, IN, Loretta Tuegel and husband Eric of Richmond, IN, Mary Reuter and husband Tom of Fairland, IN, Paul Ryan and wife Ann of Evansville, IN, Ginny Perkins of Tulsa, OK, Beth Tebbe and husband Mark of Lebanon, OH and Cathy Ritchie and husband Paul of Loveland, OH. Jim is also survived by his sister, Martha Wooldrik of Sacramento, CA. Jim was very proud to be “Grandpa” to his 21 grandchildren; Theresa Tribble (Mike Ferrara), Philip Tribble (Alison), Matt Tribble (Sarah), Mary Beth Tribble, Thomas Tuegel (Erin C.), Erin M. Tuegel, Nick Reuter (Melissa), Ben Reuter, Nate Reuter, John Ryan, Anne-Therese Ryan, Madelyn Perkins, Andrew Tebbe, Adam Tebbe, Jacob Tebbe, Hannah Tebbe, Rachel Tebbe, Danielle Tebbe, Sophia Tebbe, Patrick Ritchie and William Ritchie. Jim also has 11 great grandchildren; Victor and Ann Marie Ferrara, Andrew, Lucy and Margaret Tribble, Katelyn, Jacob and Audrey Tribble, Rosalind Tuegel, and Elias and Nora Reuter, Two additional great grandchildren will arrive this summer. Jim is also survived by a brother-in-law, Jim Lommel of Schenectady, NY and five nieces, Joan Mintz, Patty Bruttomesso, Susan Naughton, Julie Wooldrik-Lourim and Kara Wooldrik. During a nearly 60 year career in agriculture and sales, Jim worked for Connor Prairie Farms, Watkins Products, Flowers Sales, Martinsville State Bank and Mike Mooney Motors. A 57 year member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Jim served as a parish trustee and contributed tens of thousands of hour of service. He did whatever was needed from opening and locking the church daily, serving at weekday Mass, ushering, shoveling snow and serving on many committees. No one entered St. Mary’s Church without receiving a warm welcome and handshake from Jim. In 2002, the Diocese of Springfield honored with the “Magnificat Award” for service to the Church. For 22 years, Jim served as a Marshall City Councilman chairing the Finance and Labor Relations Committees. He was proud to live in Marshall and was its biggest cheerleader. That was apparent through his involvement in many civic and charitable organization including Marshall in Motion, Marshall High School Leadership Team, Clark County Trails Coalition, Clark County 4-H Foundation and the American Heart Association. His most recent civic passion was participating in the creation of the Marshall Community Foundation. In 2008 he was awarded the Business Ethics and Social Involvement Award by the East Central Illinois Development Corporation. Visitation will be 3:00 to 7:00 PM Sunday in St. Mary’s Church of Marshall with the rosary being recited at 7:00 PM. Additional visitation will be 7:00 AM to 11:45 AM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home with Mass of the Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Mary’s Church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery with military graveside rites. In lieu of flowers contributions in honor of Jim can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Marshall Community Foundation or St. Mary-of-the Woods College Annual Fund.
