Joseph “Joe” Kevin Ferris, 70, originally of Marshall and currently of Robinson, passed into the arms of his Savior, Jesus, on Thursday, October 9, 2025 surrounded by his family. Joe was born the youngest of three boys to Donald W Ferris, Sr. and Margaret Rademaker Ferris on August 3, 1955. An ornery, mischievous child, Joe was known in his town of Marshall for his fun-loving nature. Joe was also known for his athletic abilities and overall love of sports. A sports “savant” off the court, and a talent on it, Joe’s life always centered around a ball. A core memory that Joe cherished involved his senior basketball season in 1972-1973. Playing alongside good friends, and coached by his future Father-In-Law, Nellie Bennett, Joe helped lead this team to a wildly successful season, which included the legendary victory over reigning state champion Lawrenceville on their home floor in the Sectional Championship.
Joe would tell you as great as the victories were in the sports arena, no victory was better than meeting the love of his life, Cindy. Joe and Cindy wed on October 19, 1985. A connection that was built through their love of their Lord Jesus Christ, Joe and Cindy built a beautiful marriage centered around His Love, Grace, and Truth. Joe and Cindy used this Christian foundation in raising their children, Jessie and Jacob. Joe most enjoyed spending time with his family. Especially family dinners, watching Notre Dame football and Yankees baseball with his kids, and seeing his granddog, Spidey.
Joe was a great provider for his family with an amazing work ethic. He spent 20 plus years at Walmart Distribution Center in Olney, IL, along with work at Quail Creek Country Club for 30 plus years and also many years working with the City of Robinson. Joe was a stranger to no one, and met friends through every stage of life. His love for his friends and their love for him was most apparent in these last 9 months. The sheer number of friends are almost too numerous to list, but please know his friendships meant the world to him.
A life-force for so many, Joe will be dearly missed by all. He will now be whistling and fist pumping in Heaven.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Margaret Ferris, and his siblings, infant sister Margaret A. Ferris and John (Cac) Ferris. Survivors include his wife of nearly 40 years, Cindy (Bennett) Ferris, their children, Jessie (Pat) Wolfe, and Jacob (Lindi) Ferris. His brother, Donald (Heidi) Ferris, many beloved brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday in Our Redeemer Lutheran Church at Robinson, IL with Pastor Steven Becker officiating.
