Joyce E. Hoopingarner, 76, of Marshall, IL passed away 3:30 AM Friday, March 4, 2022. She was the fifth of seven children born to Arthur and Gladys (Wallace) Claypool on April 20, 1945. Surviving are her husband of almost 59 years, James W. Hoopingarner Jr.; one son, Rodney Hoopingarner; one daughter, Debra (Joseph) Washburn; three grandsons, Joshua (Macy) Washburn, Christopher Washburn and John Michael Hoopingarner; two great-grandsons, Kieran Washburn and Tristan Mayer; sisters, Hazel Erwin and Judy (Monroe) Hall and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her parents and four siblings, Harold, Bill, Benny and Dorothy Claypool. Joyce was a 1963 graduate of Marshall High School. She and Jim met one week before he left for Korea to serve in the US Army. They corresponded regularly for the 14 months he was overseas. They went out a few times the first week he returned home and were married the following week on July 28, 1963. They then moved to Colorado Springs and returned to Marshall the following year. She gracefully served the residents of Clark County for over 35 years through her career at the Clark County Court House before retiring in 2010. Joyce was highly respected in the community and loved by all who were blessed to know her. Services in honor of her life will be held at Zion United Methodist Church at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 9th with Bob Miller officiating. Visitation will be at Pearce Funeral home in Marshall from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday and also one-hour prior services at the church on Wednesday. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery.
