Larry D. Cornwell of Marshall, IL passed away Tuesday, November 7, 2023, surrounded by his wife and their two girls. Larry Dean was born October 8, 1937 in Melrose Township, Clark County, IL, to Ross and Goldie (Clement) Cornwell, who preceded him in death. Larry was also preceded in death by in infant daughter, Jennifer, an infant sister, Elizabeth Ann, and nine colorful, loving siblings: Barbara, Rex, Iola, Clema, Esther, Clara, Eva Dale, Daniel and Carroll. He was lovingly known as “Uncle Larry’ to several nieces and nephews. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1955. As a young man, Larry spent his days racing horses, washing his Mustang and training his dogs to do tricks. He served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Riley, KS. Larry met Beverly (Bea) Beard and the two were married August 29, 1969, in Marshall, IL. Larry was Dad to Jamie Beth (Brennan) Fairchild of Madison, IN, and Dawnelle (Travis) Field of Brownsburg, IN. He was “Papaw/Pawpaw” to Chesapeake, BethAnn, Corryne, Caroline, and Heidi Fairchild and Joel, Ethan, and Maddie Field. Larry was a member of First Southern Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time in Bible study and sharing Jesus with others. He was a proud Union Ironworker out of Local 439 Terre Haute, IN (currently Local 22 Indianapolis). Larry enjoyed life in the country with his dogs, growing sweet corn, raising a few livestock, loafing at the West Union restaurant and mowing. He had a passion for following politics and keeping up with what was happening around the world. He attended many of his daughters’ sporting events over the years and countless birthday parties and wienie roasts with his grandkids. More recently, he enjoyed sitting on his porch in town, looking forward to visiting with those who would walk by. Larry’s family is heartbroken, but thankful for many memories. Visitation will be 1:00 to 4:00 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday at the funeral home with burial following in the Medsker Cemetery, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, his family request memorial contributions be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Compassionate International with envelopes available at the funeral home.
