There is a celebration in Heaven! Linda (Norton) Simpson was called to her Heavenly home and joined many family members and friends on Sunday, May 26, at 7:25 pm. Linda was born on April 4, 1944, in Terre Haute, Indiana. She was the daughter of Warren and Imogene Norton of Marshall, Illinois. She was raised on a farm south of Marshall, IL, in “Choctaw” along with her four brothers: Paul, Glen, Herbert, and Allen Norton. On April 4, 1964, she married Larry Simpson of Martinsville, IL, and became a farm wife and the wife of a United States Marine. Linda is preceded in death by her father, Warren Norton; her mother, Imogene Norton; and her brother, Allen Norton. She is survived by her husband, Larry Simpson; her son, Brian (Laura) Simpson, and grandchildren, Luke and Nate; her daughter, Rhonda (Simpson) Crosby, and grandchildren, Chloe, Caiden, and Claire; her brothers, Paul (Donna) Norton, Glen (Ellen) Norton, and Herbert (Teresa) Norton, and a sister in law Pam Norton; as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. Linda was a 1962 graduate of Marshall High School, Marshall, IL. As a little girl, she attended the Choctaw Baptist Church. Later, she joined the Faith Baptist Church of West Union, IL, and after she married and began raising her children, she and Larry joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church. She served the Lord in several ways – as a VBS Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer, Song Leader, Acteen Leader, and wherever needed. In her later years, she became a member of the Martinsville Baptist Church of Martinsville, IL. Linda worked at Dulaney National Bank starting right out of high school in 1962 and later worked at Martinsville State Bank, Bank of Casey, Union Planters Bank, and Regions Bank, spending 38 years in banking before retiring in 2009. Linda was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary of West Union and later an active member of the Martinsville American Legion Auxiliary, serving as Secretary for several years. She enjoyed keeping in touch with friends as part of the “Non Red Hats” of Marshall and the “Non Red Hats” of Martinsville. She and her husband Larry became full-fledged partners in the farming business with both crops and livestock. Her first love, after God and family, was home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday June 3rd and Funeral Services will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 4th, both at the Martinsville Baptist Church at Martinsville, IL with Bro. Art Orndorff and Bro. Billie Ray Ulrey officiating. Burial will follow in the Medsker Cemetery, Melrose.
