Lonnie Gene, Long, 67, of Newburgh, IN, formerly of Terre Haute, passed away 9:15 PM Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. He was born in Terre Haute on July 24, 1945, the son of Delbert E. Long and Mary Pauline Marquis Long. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1963. He was formerly employed by Stran Steel, Bemis, Consolidated Freightways and Black Equipment. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, loved antique cars, music, Civil War History and the outdoors. Surviving is his wife of 42 years, Tess M. Cooper Long; two sons, Brian C. Long of Fishers, IN and Jeffrey A. Long of Indianapolis, IN; one daughter, Christina M. Eslinger of Fishers, IN; one grandson, Cameron J. Eslinger of Fishers, IN; mother-in-law, Edith Cooper of Marshall, IL, brother-in-law, Michael W. Cooper of Marshall, IL, an uncle, several aunts, aunts-in-law, cousins, a host of friends, in particular his friend of 63 years, Kenneth Thomas of Evansville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Wayne Cooper. Private services will be held at Pearce Funeral Home, 314 S. 6th St., Marshall, IL with Rev. Krista Price officiating. Burial will follow in the South Vigo Cemetery, rural Marshall. A celebration of his life will be hosted Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Meadows Banquet and Conference Center, 3 Meadows Shopping Center from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM with family and friends are warmly invited. In lieu of flowers, the family request any contributions in his honor can be made to the charity of your choice.
