Margaret Maxine Sweitzer, 85, of Marshall, IL passed away 9:33 PM Friday, May 15, 2015 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute, IN.
She was formerly employed by the Marshall School District as a secretary for the principal offices of the school district as well as being a teacher's aide. Maxine was born March 10, 1930 at Marshall, IL, the daughter of John Beltz and Ruth Wesnitzer Beltz. She was married to Floyd Dean Sweitzer on Jan. 30, 1949 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 2011.
Surviving are four children, Gerald (Billie) Sweitzer, Robert (Mary Ann) Sweitzer and David Alan Sweitzer all of Marshall, IL and Peggy (Randy) Shiflett of Oklahoma: three sisters, Norma Macke of Marshall, IL, Florence Beltz of Peoria, IL and Pat Bruner of Spring Valley, IL; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Billie Dean Sweitzer and siblings, Ann Turner, Edna Fitzjarrald, Agnes Staub, Clarene Whitacker, Betty Morrow, Pauline Beltz, Joe Beltz and Robert Beltz.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Marshall where she started singing in the choir at age 17 and did so until 2005. In addition to her employment outside of the home she raised her family and was a homemaker. A graduate of Marshall High School she was a drum major during her high school days.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be 2:00 PM Wednesday in St. Mary's Church of Marshall with Rev. Mike Haag officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Cemetery at Marshall. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday at Pearce Funeral Home with a Liturgical Wake Service at 5:00 PM.
