Martha J. Hutchens, 82, of Marshall, IL passed away Saturday, June 26, 2021 at her home surrounded by family. She was born June 10, 1939 at Marshall, IL, the daughter of Claude J. and Esther Sanders Morecraft. On March 2, 1958 she married Wilbur Hutchens at the First Christian Church at Marshall, IL and he preceded her in death on Feb. 15, 2021. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Jackson and brothers, Don Sanders, Robert Morecraft, Larry Morecraft and Harold Morecraft. Surviving are two daughters, Terry Lee (Dennis) Day of St. Louis, MO and Teresa Hutchens of Marshall; grandchildren, Patrick Day, Tiffany Allen, Laura (Josh) Akers, John Novak, Timothy (Amy) Novak and Janell (Steve) Hinkelman; great grandchildren, Sebastian Day, Nicolas Allen, J.D. Allen, Earl Akers, Mayson Novak, Teddy Akers, Liam Novak and Esther Akers; special family friends, Susie Wilson of Marshall and Rod Miller of Paris, IL and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Five Points Christian Church. Martha was always proud of serving her country as a wife of a husband whose career was in the U.S. Air Force. Having lived in many parts of the world, while in Japan she volunteered tutoring children is the school system at the base. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary at Martinsville, IL and enjoyed her special Tuesday evenings when she joined friends from Martinsville for card club. She loved to work on puzzles by herself and with friends while always having a cup of coffee. Martha loved canning vegetable from the garden and working with flowers and was often referred to as “Bossy Boots”. Services in honor of her life will be 11:00 AM Saturday at the Five Points Christian Church. Burial will follow in the Auburn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday at Pearce Funeral Home.
