Mary D. (Adams) Hammond, 84, of Marshall, IL passed away at 10:25 PM on July 25, 2013. She was born on May 26, 1929 rural Edgar County, IL to Fred and Mabel (Moore) Adams. She was a retired dispatcher from the Marshall Police Department. She is survived by three sons Scott and Karen Arney of Marshall, IL., Michael and Sandy Hammond of Marshall, IL., and Jeffrey and Robin Hammond of Chandler, AZ., One Brother Verner and Ruth Adams of Marshall, IL., Seven grandchildren Casey, Cody, and Loredia Hammond, Miranda Sims, Mick Arney, Amanda Harper and Tieriney Hammond and Step granddaughter Amber Murphy, Great Grandchildren Clay Sims, Clark Sims, Saige Harper, Ben Harper, Blake Mock, Brook Mock, Allayah Hammond, Gabrielle Hammond, and Alice Hammond. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Two Brothers Frank and Walter Adams, one sister Alice Marie Adams, and one niece Suzie Adams. Mary Graduated from Marshall High School, then attended Sparks Business College and Terre Haute Commercial College. She then worked at Kraft Foods, Quaker Maid, Kelly Girl Service in Terre Haute, and Hill Trucking, Dulaney Bank, Golf Course, Marshall Bowling Alley, and the Marshall American Legion. She retired after 20 years with the Marshall Police Department in 1995. She sang with the award winning American Legion Auxiliary Choir. She bowled from the start of Marshall Bowl and was a member of the Ladies Golf League from its beginning until her illness stopped both activities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church from the age of 11, where she was in the choir, a Sunday school teacher, and the Secretary/treasurer of the 3M's since 1999. Also she belonged to the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries. Many loved her home of 52 years where she raised her family and had wonderful neighbors. She was blessed with many dear friends who helped her out so much during her illness. Funeral Services will be held at the Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall, IL at 10:00 AM Monday July 29, 2013 with Rev. Richard Lewis and Rev. David Deal Officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunlap Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00PM Sunday and from 7:00 AM Until service time Monday at the Funeral Home. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the first United Methodist Church of Marshall or the donor's Choice.
