Phyllis "Joan" Shawver, 87, of Highland, IN, formerly of Marshall, IL, passed away Monday, Dec. 7, 2015.

She was born Aug. 4, 1928, the daughter of Dan W. and Edith Gard. Joan is survived by three daughters, Phyllis (Alan) Nimetz of Highland, Janice (Terry) Metz of Schererville, Diane (Lonnie) Vandiver of Cedar Lake; seven grandchildren, Dallas (Nanette) Metz, Kelly Metz, Stephanie Alexandria, Michelle Vandiver, Derek (Sarah) Nimetz, and Amy and Nate Wolfe; five great grandchildren, Luca, Torey, Mark, Dylan and Harrison. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas on June 21, 1991; a sister, Ruth Kemp and a brother, Clayton Gard.

Joan was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Griffith, a member of D.A.R. and retired from the Hammond Kmart as a bookkeeper.

Graveside services will be 12 Noon Saturday at Marshall Cemetery with Rev. Richard Lewis officiating. There will be no local visitation. Local arrangements are under the care of Pearce Funeral Home. Online condolences are being accepted at pearcefuneralservices.com.
