Phyllis Anne Ferris, 80, of Marshall, IL passed away April 5, 2017 in Union Hospital at Terre Haute after a brief illness. She was born Nov. 30, 1936, the daughter of Dr. Phillip and Sylvia Ryser. While attending nursing school near her home in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, she met James R. Ferris, a young Air Force pilot from West Union, IL. They were married on April 12, 1957 until his passing on Jan. 30, 1974. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jerry, Richard, Jim and Ray; a sister, Judy and a daughter-in-law, Sherri Ferris. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years, having worked at Crawford County Hospital, Cork Medical Center, Sara Bush Lincoln Hospital and Union Hospital. Nursing was her calling and she frequently expressed how lucky she was to have a career that she loved until she, half reluctantly, retired at age 72 in 2009. Her greatest joy was having a house full of family and spending special times with her grandchildren. Surviving are three sons, James (Mary Ann) Ferris Jr., Kenny Ferris, Ron (Samantha) Ferris; two daughters, Jill (Mike) Sherrill and Robin Stover; grandchildren, Jay (James) Ferris, Erika Ferris, Drew Ferris, Bayli Ferris, Magan (Blake) Hills, Morgan (Christi) Ferris, Chelsey (Joey) Evans, Brittany Turner, Eli Stover and Sydni Stover and great grandchildren, Tristan Holmes, Lennox Evans, Keenan Turner and Gracyn Turner. Services in honor of her life will be 10:30 AM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home with Rev. Krista Price officiating. Burial will be in the Marshall Cemetery.
