MARSHALL, Ill. -- Phyllis Joye Staub, 86, of Marshall, Illinois, died Saturday, August 15, 2015, at 7:45 p.m. in Providence HealthCare in Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana.
She was born in Dolson Township near Martinsville, Illinois on April 12, 1929, to Glenn and Ida (Spoor) Hammond. She attended Martinsville High School and was a 1946 graduate of Garfield High School in Terre Haute.
For many years she worked as a bookkeeper, first for Staub & Taylor Electric and later for Hammond Accounting and Woodard Accounting. Subsequently, she served as City Collector for the City of Marshall until her retirement. Phyllis loved spending time with her large family and circle of dear friends. She enjoyed cross-stitching, was an avid reader, a skilled bridge player and life-long golfer. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Marshall. She was also active for many years in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Marshall Women's Golf League and the Marshall Open.
She is survived by the seven children she had with Maurice Staub (deceased): David (Mary Therese) Staub of Evanston, Illinois; Kevin (Mary) Staub of Fort Worth, Texas; Mark (Susan) Staub of Vancouver, Washington; Karl (Lori) Staub of Jefferson City, Missouri; Timothy Staub of Richmond, Virginia; Andrea (Tim) Lamp of Chesterfield, Missouri; and Amy (Lyle) Yargus of Marshall; twenty grandchildren: Catherine Staub, Peter Staub, Mary Grace Staub, John Staub, Robert Staub, Kelley Staub, Meghan Staub, Michael Staub, Shane Staub, Kristin (Kyle) Radach, Patrick (Sara) Staub, Kara (Doug) Bono, Diana Staub, Jenna Staub, Abigail Staub, Olivia Staub, Lindsay Lamp, Lauren Lamp, Matthew (Dana) Yargus and Adam Yargus; and five great-grandchildren: Riley, David, Josephine, Porter and Jack. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Clayton "CD" Hammond, a sister, Beverly McNeil, and her long-time companion, Jim Hart.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 18 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshall with Father Koomson officiating. Visitation will be held 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Monday at Pearce Funeral Home in Marshall with a Liturgical Wake service starting at 4:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Marshall. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church of Marshall, the Gaslight Art Colony, the Sisters of Providence at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods or the American Cancer Society.
