Gene Higginbotham, 80, of Martinsville, IL passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at his home. He was active in the farming industry in Clark Co., IL. Gene was born June 9, 1939 in Clark Co., IL, the son of Ormal and Opal Alexander Higginbotham who preceded him in death as well as three sisters, Louise Veach, Hazel Austin and Rosemary Linton; two brothers, Clifford and Chester Higginbotham and two nephews, Steve Higginbotham and Brent Thompson. Surviving is his wife, Judy Jewell Higginbotham who he married July 16, 1982 at Paris, IL; children, Randy (Julie) Higginbotham of Marshall, Tony (Julie) Higginbotham of Marshall, Matt (Jill) Cheatham of Broadlands, IL and Laura (John) Gardner of Taylorville, IL; grandchildren, Josh (Tiffani) Higginbotham, Brooke (Erin) Murphy, Reese (Abbie) Higginbotham, Paige Higginbotham and her special friend Ryan Collins, David (Britany) Gardner, Daniel Gardner, Nicole Cheatham and Ryan Cheatham; great grandchildren, Kinley Higginbotham, Reagan Higginbotham and Easton Higginbotham; three brothers, Floyd (Glenda) Higginbotham of Marshall, Charles (Phyllis) Higginbotham of Martinsville and Robert (Sheryl) Higginbotham and several nieces and nephews. Gene was a well known and respected farmer in Clark County. He attended the Blue Grass Church of God and was a graduate of Martinsville High School where he played football. He was involved with many community events over his years and had also served on the Martinsville School Board, Martinsville AG Fair Board, Marshall Mutual Fire Insurance Co. and Enerstar. Services in honor of his life will be 10:00 AM Tuesday at the Martinsville Bible Church with Pastor Dave Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Grass Cemetery.
