Ralph W. Kile, 100, of Marshall, IL went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022 at 5:50 AM. He was surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on May 2, 1922 in Clark Co., IL, the son of Fred and Clarene Eitel Kile. He married Erma May Miller on Feb. 18, 1956 in Clearwater, FL. Surviving are his children, Mary Ann (Kermit) Sparks of Terre Haute, IN, Linda (Randy) Ellington of Holts Summit, MO, David (Brenda) Kile of Brazil, IN, Sandra (Jeff) Liebe of Paris, IL, Norma (Dan) Artis of Marshall, IL, Barbara (Brian) Donovan of Kenmore, WA and Ginny (Ron) Stone of Marshall, IL; thirteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren: a sister-in-law, Doris Kile of Marshall, IL; a niece and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Earl Kile; a great granddaughter, Annabelle Faith and his wife of 56 years, Erma. Ralph was a 1940 graduate of Marshall High School. After high school he farmed with his Dad until he joined the Navy in 1942. He was an Aviator Machinist’s Mate 2nd Class V6 USNR. He traveled to the South Pacific on the Good Ship USS Marcus Island where he became a trusty shellback. He also spent time on Pavuvu Island and was honorably discharged in 1946. Ralph was privileged to be part of the WW II Honor Flight in 2010. He returned to farming and reconnected with Erma Miller, a pretty girl he met before entering the service. After they were married, he worked at Velsicol, then joined the Carpenters Union #133 in Terre Haute where he became a journeyman carpenter. He retired in 1983 and stayed busy with farming, woodworking projects and family. He also took pride in setting up the Nativity Scene in downtown Marshall for many years.. He was a member of the Zion United Methodist Church, Clark Co. Post #90, VFW and served on the military honor guard funeral detail unit for many years. Services in honor of his life will be 11:00 AM (Central) Monday, Sept. 26th at the Zion United Methodist Church with Pastors Bud Vanest and John Cross officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Cemetery with military graveside rites. Visitation will be 4-7 PM Sunday at Pearce Funeral Home and also one-hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
