Raymond King, age 88, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 3, 2025, at the Marshall Rehabilitation and Nursing Home. Born in New York to George and Margaret King on February 21, 1937, Ray later moved to California and eventually to Illinois, touching many lives along the way. He served in the United States Marine Corps and, though he did not see combat, he was deeply proud of his military service and remained an active member of the VFW throughout his life. Ray was honored multiple times by his fellow veterans for his dedication. Ray’s life held many chapters. His story includes six wives (that we know of), and he is survived by four children (that we know of):; many grandchildren; and a few great-grandchildren. His sister Peggy Avery of Washington will also miss him. Though he wasn’t always present in his children’s lives, others held space in his heart as well—especially Jaime Ritchie, whom he considered like a daughter in his later years, as well as many of the staff and residents at Hollybrook Estates. We will always remember Ray’s handsome smile, bright eyes, and commanding voice. Despite many heart attacks and health challenges, he remained young at heart—always ready with a story (true or not), and quick to share tales of old cars, pretty women, and his own physical prowess, with a charm only Ray King could pull off. In his later years, he found God through his local church in Marshall, and for that, we are thankful. Ray was preceded in death by his daughter Cindy King of Texas, brothers Robert and George of California, his parents, and his stepdaughter Karen Combs of Illinois. Military graveside rites will be conducted 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 12th in the VA National Cemetery at Danville, IL. Online condolences are being accepted at percefuneralservices.com.
